The Department of History was founded in July 1984. The department has 23 staff members, of whom 25 are full-time teachers, including six professors, 5 associate professors, and 14 lecturers. The number of teachers who have got MA and above is 16. The teachers with advanced ranks account for 44% of the full-time teachers. Teachers with MA and above take up 64% of the full-time teachers. The Department of History inherited the teaching style of “rigidity and assiduity, moral development and education of people”. Since the establishment of the department, a group of advanced individuals good at teaching and education sprang up. Among them, two teaches enjoy special allowances from the State Council. One teacher is reputed as the advanced individual of high teaching ethics at the national level. One teacher is reputed as the advanced individual of high teaching ethics at provincial level. Two teachers boast the title of Famous Teacher of Shaanxi Province. Three teachers have won the title of Excellent Teacher of Shaanxi Province. One teacher is entitled to advanced individual of high teaching ethics at collegiate level. There are now two undergraduate majors, i.e., history and management of cultural industry. There were four teaching and research sections: history of ancient china, modern and contemporary history of china, world history, and management of cultural industry. There are four special research organizations composed of Research Institute of Xianyang Local Chronicles, Institute of Patriotism, and Research Institute of Zhou, Qin, Han and Tang Dynasties, and Research Center of History Teaching and Education in Middle Schools. The major of history is a classic course at collegiate level. Five key courses at collegiate level include ancient history of world, ancient history of China, modern history of China, selected readings of Chinese history, and ideological history in China.
