The Department of Foreign Languages was set up in 2001(Its predecessor was the Foreign Language Department of Xianyang Teachers’ College founded in 1983). The total number of students is more than 1,000. The number of staff members is 90. Among the full-time teachers, there are 15 professors and associate professors, 41 lecturers. Six teachers have the experience of studying abroad for further education. At least four foreign teachers from VSO (Volunteer Service Overseas) come here for teaching posts each year via cooperation with VSO in 1988. There are four teaching and research sections: comprehensive English, theory, combination, and college English which is in charge of the English teaching of all other departments. There is one reference room, one language analysis lab, eight multi-media language labs and two autonomous learning labs for college students.
