The Department of Political Science and Law of Xianyang Normal University, originally named Ideological and Political Education Department of Xianyang Teachers’ College, was established in 1999. In 2002, the Department of Political Science and Law of Xianyang Teachers’ College was integrated with the Political Education Section of Xianyang Education Institute into the Department of Political Science and Law of Xianyang Normal University.
    There are three majors of ideological and political education of teacher-training type, public cause administration and judiciary assistance of anon-teacher-training type. There is a commission for teaching work. There are five teaching and research sections of philosophy, economics, politics, law and management. There is a leadership group for academic work. There are three specialized research sections of Deng Xiaoping’s Theory and the important thought of “Three Represents”, social philosophy and western economic development, judiciary theory and practice. The number of staff in the Department of Law and Politics is 53, of whom 48 are full-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, there are eight professor, 15 associate professors and 21 lecturers. The number of full-time teachers with MA and above is 29. There are 12 temporarily employed teachers. There is one person in charge of books. There is an office director and an office secretary. There are two coaches. The number of students is 912 out of 21 classes, of whom 627are undergraduates. The number of 2006’s and 2007’s graduates from the four-year program of ideological and political education is 153.
