Thehistory of the Department of Computer Science can be traced back to 1990s. The Applied Science Department of the former Xianyang Teachers’ College had the major of computer application set up in 1992, with the teaching work undertaken by the Computer Centre. Based on the Computer Center, the Department of Computer Science was set up in 1998. A system of one set of administrators and two names is adopted. When Xianyang Normal University was established in 2002, the Department of Computer Science was set up. In the Department of Computer Science, there are five teaching and research sections of system structure, software engineering, network, information, administration and information system, and basics. There is a computer lab, a computer application research section and an institute for figure and image processing. There are three four-year programs of computer science and technology, information administration and information system, and software engineering. There is a three-year program of computer application technology. The major of computer science and technology has the right to award BSc. The total number of students is 632 with the number of undergraduates being 456.The number of staff in the Department of Computer Science is 54, of whom 41 are full-time teachers, with 11 professors and associate professors, 34 PhDs and masters, 16 lecturers.
