The Department of Physical Culture was established in 1999. In 2002, it began to enroll undergraduates. There is a major of physical education teaching. The number of undergraduates is more than 552. The number of staff is 62, of whom 52 are full-time teachers with four professors, seven associate professors and 16 masters (two PhD candidates). There are seven master candidates. The teachers in charge of major courses have all finished postgraduate courses, graduating from such nine universities respectively as Beijing Sport University, Beijing Normal University, Xi’an Physical Education University, Shaanxi Normal University, and Guangxi Normal University. Under the guidance of the discipline leader and the academic leader, a reasonable academic structure is formed. The teacher team is of high quality, blessed with rigorous scholarship, a strong ability in scientific research, a high level of teaching, a love of the major, a leading department-running notion, and a courageous devotion to education.
    There are six teaching and research sections of sports majors’ technical subjects, sports majors’ theory courses, public P. E. course, group competition, administration centre of sports ground and equipment, and physique testing. The Department of Physical Education undertakes the teaching of the first- and second-year compulsory sports course for more than 10,000 students of the university, the third- and fourth-year optional sports course, and the sports majors’ courses of the department. The department actively undertakes the responsibilities of physique testing, morning exercises, and the annual large-scale track and field sports meet for the university students as well as all varieties of activities for the masses and colorful sports competitive activities.
