Brief Introduction to the Department of Educational Science
 
     
 
    The Department of Educational Science can be traced back to the pedagogy and psychology research and teaching section and audio-visual teaching research and teaching section, established in 1978, of Xianyang Teachers¡¯ College, and the pedagogy and psychology teaching and resear4ch section of Xianyang Education Institute. The Department of Educational Science was set up in April 2005 by being incorporated with the course research center of basic education established in March 2003. In 2005, the four-year program started with the major of educational technology science, and the three-year program began with the major of primary education was initiated. The number of staff is 47, of whom 39 are full-time teachers with one professor, 18 associate professor, eight lecturers, and 12 assistant teachers. The number of temporarily employed teacher is 3. The number of masters is 17. There are two PhD candidates and three master candidates. The structure of age and rank of the teacher team is reasonable. The teacher team, blessed with a strong ability in scientific research, active thought, innovative educational and teaching notions, have won four prizes of excellent teaching achievements at collegiate, departmental and provincial levels for one time or another. The scientific research project titled Studies on Developmental Assessment of Teachers sponsored by the Education Department of Shaanxi Province is under smooth implementation. There are two key courses, two key teaching reform projects, and five scientific research projects, which are all at collegiate level. The Department of Educational Science has four teaching and research sections of psychology teaching and research, educational technology science, major courses of primary education, and pedagogy. There are two categories of labs consisting of modern educational technology labs and psychology labs. The educational technology labs include multimedia making lab, non-linear editing network lab, television broadcasting room and television making lab, photography lab, long-distance educational lab, and microteaching lab. The psychology labs include basic psychology lab and psychological health education center for college students. The Department of Educational Science, young and thriving, highlights innovation of notions, vehemently emphasizes practical teaching, and projects the features of the major so that the department can develop by leaps and bounds at a favorable advantage and actively expand social influence. We shall actively take in the discipline advantages of other departments and seize the opportunity to quicken the steps of development of the university on the basis of the teaching and scientific research strengths of the research center of basic courses. We shall accumulate people¡¯s vitality and seek for development. We are sure that all the work will take on the developmental appearance of power and vigor like the rising sun.
